The kick-off is the easy part.
How to plan your 2027 sales kick-off so your team sells differently afterwards.

Does your sales kick-off land well on the day, then fade from view before the end of the first quarter?
We’ve worked with more than 100 B2B sales teams and see this pattern repeatedly: planning concentrates on the event, with too little preparation or coaching afterwards.
The real test of an SKO is what your sellers do differently with clients three months later.
Where Kick-Off Planning Goes Wrong
The agenda is built from requests.
Until someone agrees what sellers must do differently with clients, there’s no basis for saying no.
Nobody owns the outcome.
If the CRO isn’t accountable for what the team does differently three months later, it doesn’t get planned.
Practice gets squeezed.
It’s the first thing cut when presentations overrun.
Managers arrive as guests.
Yet they decide whether a new behaviour survives its first busy week.
The Fix: Forty-20-40™
Each problem above has the same root. The event is doing all the work. Our Forty-20-40™ framework spreads the effort across the three places change actually happens.

- 20Strategic Intervention(s)
- 40Disciplined Execution
Forty · Before
Agree no more than three priorities from real deal reviews, so every agenda request has to earn its place. Give the CRO ownership of the outcome. Prepare managers first, so they arrive as coaches, not attendees.
20 · The event
Practise the new skills and frameworks on real client situations. Leave with specific plans for live opportunities, not vague intentions to ‘improve discovery’.
40 · After
Coach the new behaviours inside the routines you already run. Track leading indicators. Remove what gets in the way.
Plan all three together and decide what happens after the event while you’re still deciding what goes into it.
What That Means in Practice
Before the SKO, start with real deals, not the revenue target. Choose no more than three priorities and describe the behaviours each one needs. Check that compensation, territories and quotas support what you’re asking for. Bring the buyer’s view into the plan through candid conversations with clients who delayed, chose someone else or struggled to implement.
During the SKO, connect leadership messages to the clients you serve. Design the running order around attention, not status. Give managers their own session to practise coaching the same capabilities. Book the first coaching conversations before people leave.
After the SKO, use one-to-ones, account reviews and opportunity coaching to embed the change. Put dates on the leading indicators. Bring managers together to compare examples and keep standards consistent. Plan a mid-year follow-up to refresh the priorities and keep the change in front of the team.
Measure experience, behaviour and results, and read each in context. Some behaviour changes may be visible within 90 days. In a long enterprise cycle, revenue outcomes may take longer.
Measure What Changes
Before you approve the agenda, ask what your people should be doing differently with clients three months from now, and whether you’ve designed the work that gets them there.
